Crossroads
There are moments in life that make no
noise, yet they leave a person exhausted. Not because something terrible has
happened, but because nothing seems to move. A man wakes up every morning
carrying the weight of choices that refuse to become decisions. One road
promises security but slowly steals his spirit. The other whispers of hope but
asks him to risk everything he has built. He stands somewhere in between,
watching time pass while both roads quietly drift farther away. People often
think the hardest battles are fought against the world. They rarely notice the
ones fought inside a silent mind.
He laughs when conversations demand a
smile. He works because responsibilities never pause. He replies, "I'm
fine," because explaining a storm that has no visible clouds feels
impossible. Yet every night, when the world grows quiet, the questions return.
They sit beside him like familiar strangers.
"What
if I leave?"
"What
if I stay?"
"What
if both choices are wrong?"
No answer
comes.
The suffocation is strange. It is not
caused by a lack of air, but by a lack of certainty. It feels like living in a
room with every door unlocked, yet finding the courage to open none of them.
Days begin to resemble each other. Dreams slowly turn into calculations. Hope
starts asking permission from fear. The worst part is not being lost. The worst
part is knowing exactly where you are, yet not knowing where your next step
belongs.
People around him continue moving.
Some celebrate new beginnings. Some proudly speak about their achievements.
Some seem so certain that life almost appears simple. He smiles for them,
genuinely. But somewhere within, a quiet voice wonders why his own life has
paused while the calendar keeps changing. No one teaches us what to do when the
heart and the mind become two different destinations. The heart asks for
freedom. The mind reminds him of responsibilities. The heart seeks peace. The
mind counts consequences. And somewhere between these endless conversations, a
person slowly forgets what silence once felt like.
Perhaps this is what adulthood often
looks like, not having too many problems, but having too many reasons for every
decision. Every choice carries someone's expectation. Every sacrifice protects
one dream while burying another. Some days he wishes life would simply make the
decision for him. Not because he is weak, but because carrying uncertainty for
too long can make even the strongest shoulders tremble. Still, every sunrise
arrives without asking whether he feels ready. So, he gets up. He continues. He
waits. Not because waiting is easy, but because sometimes surviving a confusing
chapter is all the strength a person can gather. Maybe that is the truth many
of us quietly live with. There are people all around us who are not broken, not
defeated, not hopeless. They are simply standing at the crossroads of their
lives, trying to choose a direction while pretending they already know the way.
